How it begins
After his father died three years ago, Taeo took over his mother's pension bankbook and card: "I'll grow it for her in a savings plan." The day his mother hesitantly mentions KRW 2 million for dentures, Taeo asks Haena to pay instead. "The plan doesn't mature until next year." When Haena asks to see the statement just once, he says, "It's Mom's money — why are you digging?" and slings his camping bag over his shoulder at the door. The date on a slip of paper tucked in the bag's side pocket is the day after his mother's pension comes in. Haena sets the paper on top of the shoe cabinet.
