Review policy

Who can write series reviews, how we show them, when we hide them, and how to object if your review is hidden.

Draft pending legal review. It may change before launch.

1. Who can write reviews

  • Signed-in members can write a review when at least one episode of the series is available to them right now. If a free episode is available, you don't need to unlock anything with popcorn.
  • One review per member per series. Posting again replaces your earlier review with the new one.
  • Each review has a star rating (1–5) and your thoughts (1–2,000 characters).
  • If your review reveals the ending or other spoilers, choose "Contains spoilers". Only members who can watch every released episode of the series can mark a review as a spoiler.
  • We don't currently give popcorn or other rewards for writing reviews.

2. How reviews are shown

  • Reviews appear under Reviews on the series page, newest first by the date they were first posted. Editing or posting again keeps that date and position, and we don't reorder reviews by rating or content.
  • Each review shows the rating its author chose, as is. We don't currently calculate or show an average rating for a series.
  • Reviews are grouped by display language: a review written or edited on the English site appears on the English site.
  • Spoiler reviews are shown only to people who can watch every released episode of the series (if every released episode is free, that includes signed-out visitors), and their text stays folded until you open it.
  • Reviews from internal accounts that we mark for operations or testing aren't shown to other users.

3. How long reviews stay up

  • Reviews stay up until their author deletes them or a moderator hides them. There is no set end date.
  • Authors can edit or delete their own review on the series page while it is shown to them. A deleted review's text is erased and it no longer appears.
  • A spoiler review is shown to its author, too, only while they can watch every released episode of the series. If a rental ends or a new episode they can't watch yet is released, the author can't see, edit or delete the review until they can watch every episode again.
  • Reviews by members who have closed their accounts no longer appear.
  • If a series is made private or its visibility is restricted by a moderation action, its reviews no longer appear either.

4. When we hide reviews

Moderators may hide a review, whether it was reported or found by us, if it falls under any of the following.

  • Defames a real person or reveals someone's personal information
  • Infringes someone's rights, for example by copying their work without permission
  • Is obscene or sexually explicit
  • Encourages violence
  • Expresses hatred of, or discriminates against, a group of people
  • Has nothing to do with the series, such as ads, promotion or repeated posts
  • Misleads other users with false information
  • Otherwise breaks the law

5. Hidden reviews

  • Hidden reviews aren't shown to other users.
  • The author sees a notice under Reviews on the series page that a moderator hid the review. For a spoiler review, the notice appears only while the author can watch every released episode, as in section 3.
  • The author can still edit or delete the review from that notice, but editing doesn't make it public again.
  • Moderators only hide reviews or make them public again. They don't change a review's text or rating.

6. Reports and how we handle them

  • If someone else's review falls under section 4, sign in and use Report on that review to give a reason (3–400 characters). Reporting the same review again before it's handled counts as one report.
  • A report doesn't hide a review by itself. A moderator checks the report and the review, then either hides the review or dismisses the report.
  • Each time we hide a review or make one public again, we keep an internal record of the reason and the review's previous status.
  • We don't notify the author when we hide a review or make it public again. If your review is hidden, you'll see the notice under Reviews on the series page, as described in section 5.
  • We haven't set a deadline for handling reports or objections (section 7).

7. Objections

  • If you disagree with your review being hidden, contact customer support (Business information at the bottom of the page) with the series and your reason. A moderator will check again and make the review public if there's no reason to keep it hidden.
  • Use the same contact if a review you reported is still showing and you'd like us to check again.
  • If you're not a member but a review infringes your rights, use the same contact.
